		<description>Andrew,

I was responding to Kevin Marsh's concern about politicians moving into this space, which I think it would be fair to say was a concern that he thought it was a shortcut or quickfix for larger issues. Kevin Marsh was using that as a criticism of blogging but not framing it as a failure of proper engagement by the politicians on the national level moving into this space.

You're right, in haste, I probably painted politicians with slightly too broad of a brush. I know about Tom Watson's efforts for Labour and although not an MP, Tim Montgomerie on the Conservative side. They definitely get it. It's unfortunate that they remain the exception instead of something of a more general trend.

And I will admit that I'm not familiar with local British politics. Thanks for bringing up what's going on there. It's often more interesting because the politicians are closer to the ground.

<description>Thanks for taking the time to do that Kevin - a real service! (I really wanted to get there, but the kids can only hang out in the bus shelter for so long.)

<description>I'd be really surprised if Kevin Marsh read very many politician's blogs on a day to day basis. Most of them aren't broadcasting, they're often local and specific.

But politician's blogs - like politicians - aren't all the same. Miliband is trying to do one thing with his - talk about his job as Secretary of State - while someone like (http://www.tom-watson.co.uk/) Tom Watson is in, and of, the political blogging community.

Most politicians that blog are local councillors, reflecting on their public lives, talking about their passions and trying to find a new and different way of having a conversation with whoever comes by. Take a look at (http://www.antoniabance.org.uk/) Antonia or (http://www.readmyday.co.uk/maryreid) Mary , mainstream politicians engaging as hard as they can.

<description>Hi there, I attended a lunch yesterday hosted by the Free Press Association where two leading Russian journalists/human rights defenders spoke out about the current situation with regards to press freedom in Russia. If you are interested in having a look please visit http://www.opendemocracy.net/openblogs/blog/od/?permalink=World-Press-Freedom-Day-1.html&#038;smm=y
and let me know what you think.

All the best.
