I like to say journalism is more about technique, not just technology. Also from firsthand experience I can attest that being the resident tech geek at the news meetings a few years ago was not always appreciated. And I was the Page One guy. The online editor was virtually ignored.

Until recently it used to be badge of honor among some of my ink scribe colleagues to flaunt their non-grasp of almost anything technical. "All I need is words, boy" was the attitude.

Today, they spend more energy trying to shield their digital illiteracy from their bosses than investing in learning new digital story-telling techniques. It's a bit sad - but telling of the state of art.
